WHO CARES FOR US

Elders

LPBC is led by a group of men referred to in the Bible as elders. These men are scripturally qualified, per 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1, and church appointed. The congregation of LPBC has given these men the responsibility to oversee the ministry direction of the church and the spiritual care of the people. Elders express their God-given leadership within the church primarily through teaching God’s Word. You can read a more detailed perspective on our view of elders and their role at LPBC by accessing the document, “A Vision for Leadership at LPBC.”

Meet our elders. . .

Teaching Pastor

Tell us a little about your family.
Suzanne and I have been married for 32 years. She is a native Texican (and proud of it) but she was raised in Arizona. She is responsible for my current Mexican food addiction and a license plate that reads (you guessed it), “Don’t Mess with Texas”. It’s all good! We have two adult children and we are homeschooling our third born, Jared.

Where are you from?
I was born in Macon, Georgia, but as an Air Force brat I was raised living all over the place.

Who are some of your favorite authors?
I enjoy a number of authors. Most of my reading relates to my work in theology and the Bible. Consequently, I enjoy reading MacArthur, Stott, Piper, Owen, Lloyd-Jones, Ferguson, etc.

What are some of your favorite movies?
Oh man. This is tough. Do I give the guy answer, or the truthful answer? Better go with truthful: Pride and Prejudice (A&E version), The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill and Came Down a Mountain (see it!), and anything Sherlock Holmes.

What are some of your hobbies?
Trail running, shooting and drooling over well-made guns, and watching old movies.

What’s the best part of being an elder?
There’s no doubt that pastoring makes me a better churchman, father, husband and friend. The best part for me is a combination of the personal challenges and changes to my own life as I live in the grace of God as a sinner/shepherd among God’s people.

Tell us a little about your family.
Marivi and I have been blessed with 25 years of marriage and a house full of boys – Micah and Josiah (only in the house when they’re not at college), Nathan, and Caleb. And even our dog “Xerxes” (a Doberman Pincher) is a boy! God has used the uniqueness of each of our sons, and especially Nathan and Caleb having Down Syndrome, to keep our lives in perspective and focused on the grace, love, and sufficiency of our Lord Jesus Christ and His Word.

Where are you from?
Knoxville, TN

Who are some of your favorite authors?
John MacArthur, Paul David Tripp, R.C. Sproul, Jerry Bridges, Steven Lawson

What are some of your favorite movies?
Facing the Giants, Lord of the Rings, The Fugitive, Casablanca, North by Northwest, The Avengers

What are some of your hobbies?
In this stage of life, my family is my hobby! In my free time, I enjoy family game nights, as well as date nights and sports with each of them.

What’s the best part of being an elder?
The best part of being an elder is the large amount of time we spend together as elders in prayer – it’s a humble privilege and great honor for us to approach our Lord with praises and prayers on behalf of the individuals and families in our church.

Tell us a little about your family.
I live with three beautiful girls (my wife Mindy and two daughters Mia and Keira) and my infant son Mikey. I love being with them, having fun with them, leading them and learning from them.

Where are you from?
Miami, FL

Who are some of your favorite authors?
John Piper, C.S. Lewis, R.C. Sproul

What are some of your favorite movies?
Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings, The Untouchables, Singing in the Rain, Star Wars, and Jaws

What are some of your hobbies?
Painting, fishing, golf, most sports, traveling, board games, and food

What’s the best part about being an elder?
Being around and learning from the other elders. Their care and humility in leading our church encourages me to grow in those same godly qualities.

Deacons

Deacons are appointed by the church to fulfill specific areas of ministry at LPBC. Deacons are the church’s best servants. We see deacons selected in Acts 6 and read about their qualifications in 1 Timothy 3.
